Thursday, May 31st

NEWS: Today at Mass we celebrated the 8th grade graduates.  Congratulations to our 8th grade St. Lawrence families as their students continue on their journey through life.  We wish you all the best as God guides you onto the next chapter of your life.

Monday is our End of the Year Celebraton at Machado Park!  You are not required, but we would like you to wear your YELLOW Olympic shirt one more time on marsupial Monday.  Please bring your white Jubilee t-shirt to school either tomorrow or Monday as well.  Write your name on the tag with permanent marker please, before you bring it.  We will be doing a project with these Jubilee shirts on Tuesday at school.

HOMEWORK:
1. Read for 25 minutes (or more). Record your starting and stopping time on your Homework Log. 
2. Read your First Day, Last Day letter with Mom and Dad.  Talk about the CHANGES you have gone through this year in second grade.  How have you grown?  It is AMAZING to see how many ways you have all grown and changed this year!

Our Summer School classes are filling up fast. Please sign up via SchoolOne if you have not already! We have a third grade prep class and lots of fun will be happening at summer camp.

Tuesday, May 29th

NEWS: We had a wonderful day at the St. Lawrence Summer Olympics on Friday! We are still receiving medals from our accomplishments and successes! Congratulations Colombian cobras!

Tomorrow we will be celebrating our May ABC Superstars in class! Thank you all for working so hard this month.  Even with all of the fun things going on this month, we were GREAT leaders! You may come to school tomorrow dressed as your favorite character from your favorite book.  Please bring along the book or a copy of the front cover.  If you are not able to dress up, you can either print out a picture of your character or draw a picture according to the details you read in your book.

*You MUST bring your regular uniform in your backpack as we will be changing after the presentations/celebration (around morning recess time).  Wear your regular uniform if you do not plan on dressing as your character.  No face paint or hair coloring please.  Thank you!

HOMEWORK:
1. Finish your writing about your favorite character and book for tomorrow's celebration. We worked on this for 45 minutes in class today so you shouldn't have too much left to complete.  Thank you Jonathan and Keala for finishing in class.
2. If you are in one of Mrs. Wall's guided reading groups, please read at www.raz-kids.com every night this week.

The Summer Olympics are tomorrow! Wear sport shorts or your blue uniform shorts and good tennis shoes with laces. I will have your yellow shirts and red socks for you in the morning. Bring WATER!!! Also, you will need sunscreen and a hat if you want. Please put sunscreen on before you come to school in the morning and bring your sunscreen in your backpack so you can put more on during the day. Jamba Juice will be there around lunch time. Bring $4 of you want to buy any for your dessert. We are going to have tons of fun tomorrow so get a good nights rest and a GREAT breakfast! Wednesday, May 23rd

NEWS: Wow!! What a SPECTACULAR day!!! You second graders were AMAZING all day long! Thank you for following WALT and always being ready for the next thing.  You rock!

THANK YOU!!!! Thank you to all of the parents who came to school and supported our talented second graders throughout the day. Whether you stayed all day or just for a short portion, it was great to see you all at school and I know the kids absolutely LOVED having you here! =)

Tomorrow will be our Student of the Month Assembly at 8:05 in the Community Center.  Please come ready to cheer for all of the superstars from this month.  Parents are welcome as well.

Friday is the OLYMPICS!!!! Wear your uniform shorts or any other dark blue sport shorts you want to school.  We will be outside ALL DAY! It will be hot so...Bring at least two bottles of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat (sunglasses and hat optional).  Mom and Dad, if you can put sunscreen on them before they come to school Friday that would be great.  Please email me if you do NOT want sunscreen on your child as they will be reapplying throughout the day to keep the kids safe. I have the student's yellow shirts and red socks that we will be wearing on Friday.

NEWS: Tomorrow is an EXCITING day at St. Lawrence.  Make sure you have everything you need for tomorrow in your backpack TONIGHT so you don't forget anything!

8:00~Meet at the Church wearing your 1st Communion clothes (Sunday Best)
-pictures with our whole class by Mrs. Greene
8:30~1st Communion Mass
9:30~Change into uniform in the Parish Hall bathrooms.  You MUST have BLUE UNIFORM SHORTS.  Your friends may have an extra pair for you to wear, but you need to change into these now.  Mom and Dad, please help if you are here to make sure all of the fancy clothes are taken care of. We especially need help from Dads during this time in the boy's bathroom.
9:30~Special Congratulations and Surprise from Mrs. Wall and Mrs. Vierra in the Parish Hall.
10:00-Concert and Arts Fair in Community Center
11:00~Look at art on walls with a buddy in the Community Center.
11:15~Bring backpack to the classroom and go to lunch with Mom and Dad.
12:00~Go to classroom and change into Colombia Olympic outfits.We have everything you need here except your blue uniform shorts and tennis shoes.  If you have flat-bottomed soccer shoes you can wear those also. No kleats please.

Bring ALL library books you have to school tomorrow.  Keep looking for old books you may have hidden in your room.

NEWS: The Olympics are almost here! Please let me know if you have RED SOCCER socks ASAP! Bring yours from home if you have them or bring $5 TOMORROW so I can buy you a new pair on Friday!

The Opening Ceremonies will be at 12:30 next Wednesday.  Mom and Dad are welcome to come and join us for the country presentations in the Community Center. The actual Olympics are NEXT Friday.  We will be outside ALL DAY! Please pack sunscreen and at least two bottles of water in your backpack that hyena day.

NEWs: Today was the beginning of our last "normal" week of classes. We have MANY special events coming up in our last four weeks of school. Please remind Mom or Dad to sign your NEW homework log but only AFTER you complete your homework. Last week only two of our students completed all of their homework and turned it in on time. Please remember that shool is your first priority. You will not be participating in extra activities that happen at school if your class work and homework is not completed. Many of the things we have for homework are things we usually spend time in class working on. If you use your work time to work, homework will not take you a long time. HOMEWORK: 1. Read or listen to one book at www.raz-kids.com 2. Complete one gold bar at www.mathletics.com 3. Memorize the lyrics for our Spring Concert. You all received a copy last week. We have been practicing these songs for 6 weeks in class with Mrs. Mayper. 4. Practice your flamingo salsa dancing 5. Bring $5 for your "Colombia" socks. You have until this Friday to bring it.

NEWS: Thank you to all of the families who visited the teachers at Baskin' Robbins last night! The ice cream was delicious!

Thanks to Principal Azevedo, tomorrow is a FREE DRESS day!

I am so excited to say that we all know how to tell time! It is so great to see so many boys and girls with watches on. Please remember, if you wear a watch to school it should stay on your wrist and be used for telling time.  I already have 3 watches in my desk because they were being used as toys in class rather than to tell time.  It is great to see so many of you excited about our new skills, but remember to be responsible with them.  Mom and Dad are welcome to come to class anytime before or after school to get your watch if I already have it. Thank you.

NEWS: Congratulations to all of the boys and girls who completed their First Communion this past weekend.  It was an amazing weekend full of God's love for us!

The Summer Olympic events have begun! We will be receiving the torch tomorrow from Israel.  The students in our class have prepared short things to say during morning announcements.  Moms and Dads are welcome to come share this Olympic experience with us at 8:00.
*If you would like to dress "Colombian" BOYS may wear black pants, a white button up shirt, sandals (any kind) and a red bandana around your neck. Boys, please come to school dressed in these clothes, with your uniform in your backpack.  GIRLS should BRING a sundress and sandals to school.  Please do NOT wear this dress to school but...EVERYONE come to the classroom at 7:45 if you are planning to dress up and be part of this presentation.  No one is required to dress up if you don't want to. Ladies, I will give you a piece of my Colombian jewelry if you have a dress to change into.  Please be early if you are participating so we have time to change if needed.  Thank you!! Somos Colombianos!

Wednesday, May 2nd

NEWS: We started our ITBS Testing today for those needed to retake the second grade tests and it went GREAT! Way to go boys and girls! You did awesome! We are hoping to finish this up by Friday.

Colombia (that's us) will be receiving the torch in the Olympic Torch Passing this coming Monday.  Moms and Dads are welcome to come support Colombia and learn some interesting facts about this country during Morning Announcements.  Also, we would LOVE to have Mom and Dad help out with the Olympic events that will be happening on May 25th.  If you would like to volunteer keep your eyes posted on School One for information from Mr. Jordan soon.  This is an all day event and we would love to have your help!

NEWS: Happy May Day! Today we celebrated our April ABC Superstars! Great work boys and girls! It is wonderful to see so many responsible second graders receiving rewards for all of good things you did this past month.  Thank you for letting your light shine little sparrows!
Tomorrow morning we are sponsoring Mass.  Mom and Dad, please join us if you can to see our last Mass together before we begin our First Eucharist celebrations.

MOM AND DAD! Today we found lice in our classroom.  Please be aware if you see any at home to let the school know ASAP so it does not continue to spread.  We now have found students with it in Kindergarten, our class, and third grade.
