Second Grade Sacraments
St. Lawrence Elementary
Dear Second Grade Families,
As I shared with all of you at Back to School Night, second grade is a very important year for our students as Catholics. This year we will be celebrating the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. We will be learning about each of these in class. Each family will also be required to complete projects at home on a weekly basis. The projects will be centered on each sacrament we are learning about and will need to be completed at home and brought to school to share.
This week we are beginning our Sacrament preparation in class for First Reconciliation (First Penance). As discussed in the meeting you all attended with Mrs. De Paz, the packet that was sent home and the same information that was posted on School One, your family is responsible for completing the registration information and weekly At Home Family Focus
activities each week. Your child will receive a folder and book in class today. These materials will be sent home each Thursday or Friday and must be completed and returned each Monday morning to school. In class each week we will be learning about the chapters that were listed on your original paperwork. At the end of each chapter is where you will find the At Home work you need to do together. Please do not work ahead in the book. Once you have discussed and completed the chapter’s content your family should write your thoughts on the final pages of the chapter where there is space on the pages titled We Respond. Mom, Dad, and your second grade student should write a reflection together about your thoughts from this content.
Some families have already expressed that they are not planning on having their child make these Catholic sacraments. For these families, the At Home activities are optional and may be completed if you’d like. Please inform Mrs. Wall as soon as possible if you are not Catholic and/or your family is not planning on participating in these celebrations for any reason if you have not done so already. Please make Mrs. Wall aware of your situation as soon as possible so we can start any preparations that may be required for your family, especially any Baptisms that need to happen before First Reconciliation.
Thank you for your support with this wonderful Catholic Sacrament and helping to continue your child’s education in their faith. We look forward to these important celebrations in your child’s Catholic life should you have any questions, please email me.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jill Wall
P.S. When you have completed the list of information needed by the church to complete the second grade Sacraments, please turn it in to the church’s parish office to Eleanor’s inbox.
